Bologna supporters who traveled to England for their Champions League match against Aston Villa were dealt a double blow. Not only did their team suffer a 2-0 defeat at Villa Park, but their return journey was also disrupted by a bomb scare at Birmingham Airport.
The airport was forced to close its doors after a suspicious vehicle was spotted outside the terminal. Passengers were evacuated, flights were suspended, and transportation links to the airport were cut off. While authorities later determined the vehicle to be harmless, the incident caused significant delays and inconvenience for travelers, including the Bologna fans.
Many of the supporters had planned to fly back to Italy directly from Birmingham, but due to the closure, some were forced to find alternative routes through Manchester or London. The situation was further complicated by the fact that this was the second time Bologna’s Champions League away fixture had taken place in England. Earlier in the season, they had also lost to Liverpool.
As the airport slowly resumed operations, Bologna fans and other passengers were left to navigate the aftermath of the disruption and hope for a smoother journey home.
